About Cathy
Cathy’s story began in September 2007, when a routine mammogram
detected Stage III inflammatory breast cancer — a very rapid-spreading type
of cancer. The day after her husband asked for a medical leave from his
company to help her through her massive treatment schedule, his company “downsized” him, leaving them with one month’s pay and COBRA insurance coverage as they begin their long, difficult — and very costly —
battle with cancer.
Cathy (Horejs) Kuckuk grew up in Oshkosh, Wis. She is the daughter of Mary
and the late Roger Horejs (Oshkosh), and sister to Laura (Horejs) Lambert and
Patti (Horejs) Purcell.
She married Mark Kuckuk (originally of Madison, Wis.)
in 1996 and has two children, Madeline, 8, and
Graham, 5. They moved to Monroe, Wis., last year
(just outside of Madison) to live their dream of
owning a small farm with horses, chickens and more
in a small farming community. Things were going
well … until now.
