Cathy’s story began in September 2007, when a routine mammogram detected Stage III inflammatory breast cancer — a very rapid-spreading type of cancer. The day after her husband asked for a medical leave from his company to help her through her massive treatment schedule, his company “downsized” him, leaving them with one month’s pay and COBRA insurance coverage as they begin their long, difficult — and very costly — battle with cancer.
